Fire Over the Solomons
Book V of The Dragon Wars Saga
The long road to Tokyo starts here.
Synopsis
The victory at Kokoda gives Australia a moment to breathe — but only a moment. Japan still holds vast territory across the Pacific, and their next target is clear: the Solomon Islands. If they secure the region, they can isolate Australia and threaten the entire Allied position.
Charlie Harrison and Thalassa are deployed to Guadalcanal, joining American Marines, Australian infantry, and the newly formed joint Allied Dragon Corps. Their mission is simple in theory and hellish in practice: hold Henderson Field at all costs.
The Solomons become a nightmare of shifting fronts, jungle ambushes, and relentless night attacks. The Ryūjin unleash new dragon breeds adapted for darkness — Shadow Drakes that strike without warning, and Abyssal Wyverns that dive from the clouds like living torpedoes. The Allies respond with their own innovations: Jungle Drakes refined from Kokoda, Sea Serpents patrolling the waters of Ironbottom Sound, and American Thunder Drakes capable of high‑speed dives.
Every day brings a new battle. Every night brings terror.
Charlie finds himself fighting exhaustion, doubt, and the growing fear that the war will never end. The Solomons grind down even the strongest soldiers and dragons. Henderson Field changes hands repeatedly. Ships burn in the Slot. The ocean becomes a graveyard of steel and scales.
But slowly — painfully — the tide shifts.
The Allies begin to push the Japanese back, island by island, ridge by ridge. The Solomons become the proving ground for a new kind of warfare: coordinated dragon‑carrier operations, amphibious assaults, and relentless pressure that Japan cannot sustain.
By the time the campaign ends, Charlie and the Dragon Corps are forever changed. They have survived the darkest nights of the Pacific — and now the path to the Philippines lies open.
The counteroffensive has begun.
